This is a Float Trip for large Rainbows and Browns. Your trip will take place on the famous Blue Ribbon stretch below Calgary. The trip will take approximately 12 hrs. We'll get started early and you will fish some incredible water. Experience is always an asset but even the novice will enjoy the Bow. Hooking up on 20 inch trout is to be expected. 24 inch plus trout are not uncommon. The novice angler can expect to learn techniques for fishing large rivers and fighting large fish.
Expect good nymphing at first light. During mid-day we stalk the shorelines for risers, work riffles with nymphs, or strip streamers through seams. As evening sets we find the fish coming up for caddis. August in Southern Alberta is awesome for hoppers. Big flies, big fish, violent takes, exciting action!

Upper Oldman & Livingstone Rivers.
You will be fishing on some of the prettiest sections of river anywhere in the world. You will enjoy beautiful mountain scenery while fishing dries to willing, rising trout in easy wading streams.
2004 was an incredible year, with a lot of 18 and 19-inch fish. These mountain waters are teaming with colourful cutties which average 14-16 inches. Some large bull trout are lurking in the deeper pools. You’ll have your hands full if you hook up on one.
Hatches on these rivers can be absolutely phenomenal. They start with large Golden Stones in the end of June, first of July. About that time the Green drakes turn on. Pale Morning Duns give way to Blue winged olives as the summer progresses. Hoppers take off during August. Come and enjoy the fantastic fishing and scenery with us on these rivers this year!

Southern Alberta has 3 gems. Being guided on these rivers gives you the insider advantage.
The Waterton River, clear and cold, flows out of Waterton National Park sporting bragging-sized browns, rainbows and some bull trout. It is a good float until water levels drop in August.
The lower Oldman River is a tail-water fishery and is usually floatable all summer. It is packed with Rainbows averaging 16-20” with the possibility of up to 24 inches.
And lastly, a true trophy river!
The St.Mary's, a river where fish are lower in numbers, but
larger than life. These hogs are noted for being hot. Getting
into your backing is a regular
part of the action. These encounters are not for faint hearts
or light tippets.
This walk and wade proposition may produce your biggest river Rainbow ever!

The Elk River and Michelle Creek are 2 legendary Cutthroat fisheries. The majestic mountain scenery is matched only by the bright colors of these hungry cutties. Most of the action is on dry flies. Last season saw the average fish about 15 inches with the big boys pushing 20.
The Elk is a Float Trip while the Michelle is a walk and wade. Please be aware that, in addition to the cost of the fishing licence, BC is charging an additional $20 a day rod fee on these waters.

Alberta’s Rocky Mountain Anglers operates out of Lethbridge. It is located 2.5 hrs. north of Great Falls MT. or 2 hrs. south of Calgary AB and has an airport. Lethbridge, approx. 80 thousand, is big enough to meet your needs and small enough to avoid big city problems. Life here is moving at a slower pace, a great place to come and relax.
Lethbridge has a large number of motels and hotels with prices ranging from $65 to $150 Canadian a night. Many are equipped with restaurants, lounges, hot tubs, and pools.
Lethbridge also has some of the best dining in the country, boasting the most restaurants per capita in Canada. A good selection can be found within walking distance of most motels/hotels. It should be noted that you can drive anywhere in Lethbridge in 15 minutes.
For those wishing a more secluded and scenic view away from the city, we have a selection of lodges and bed & breakfasts to choose from.
Depending on your preferences, Rocky Mountain Anglers can provide you with a list of recommended lodging or we can book your lodging for you as part of the package you have us design.
Below is a general equipment list. Please be aware that weather in Alberta can change dramatically within an hour or two. We will try to fish regardless of wind, rain, etc. A lot of great fishing is had during a good rain. Being prepared will make your trip much more enjoyable. You may wish to check the long range forecast before your departure by clicking on the "Check The Forcast" link at the top of each page.

Dear Barry,
I want to thank you for the awesome trip this summer.
It was beyond my wildest expectations. This is the third time we have
been together in your " stomping grounds" and it is hard
to believe that it could have been better than the previous two. When
you told me that I would be fishing to 25" plus rainbows on a
dry I found it hard to believe. Better yet, the drys were size 4 hoppers!
I must say that your knowledge of the waters we fished made every second count. You put me on fish after fish. The 26" rainbow I landed the second day is my personal best for a resident rainbow on any river. I won't ever forget the exhilarating run of the big female taking me well into my backing as she got air six times moving up river. What a strong fish! In fact, every fish I hooked felt like a pig. These babies must be on some serious steroids.
I would also feel amiss if I didn't mention the beauty of the Upper Old Man River. I am amazed every time we make the trip there. It has to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing places on earth. The monster Bull Trout and gorgeous Cutthroats aren't anything to sniff at either.
I just wanted to drop this note and tell you thanks again for a fantastic trip. This trip each summer is the highlight of my year. See you in August!

To Whom It May Concern:
I really enjoyed the time I spent on the water with Barry. He is very relaxed as a guide, very easy to be guided by and knew the water we fished very well. He was effective at putting us onto fish, and ensuring that everyone in our party had a successful day—in adverse weather conditions even. I experienced some of the most exciting angling I’ve ever had, hitting at least three personal bests in one day for big rainbows in a river (24”, 25”, 26”). Based on my experience with him as a guide on both this river and the Michelle in British Columbia I would strongly recommend him to anyone.
Thanks

Dear Barry, (5,12,05)
Thank you for accepting our invitation to visit you again. The fishing environment you work in is extremely challenging. More importantly, so are the fish.
It is a deep pleasure for me to be with someone that is a serious student, and teacher, of both subjects. To be fishing again, with you, brings me considerable comfort, because of your inherent sense of the persons with you, and your desire to bring them safety, comfort, and the subject at hand.
The fishery you know so well is one of the most exciting, challenging, and beautiful I've known. To see a rainbow, literally, jump five times, at eye level, thirty feet away, big enough to not believe the size, is a picture that will remain in my mind's eye, etched like the frosted figures on an expensive glass.
I have a picture in my temporal lobe of a great fish pushing a mound of water in front of his nose, and then rising out, the sound of the behemoths mouth closing around an unaware hopper.
We look forward to seeing you and the hoppers, soon.
